Who keeps the records

Federal FOIA does not reach a county sheriff. In Ohio the statute is the Public Records Act, R.C. 149.43 — any person may ask, no purpose required. These are the offices that still sit between New Marshfield and the file.

Athens County Sheriff

Records — Sara Lightner

Live public feed

Incident reports, arrest reports, CAD / calls for service, crash reports, and booking paperwork for unincorporated Athens County — including New Marshfield and Waterloo Township.

New Marshfield has no municipal police. The Sheriff is the primary law-enforcement agency.

Ask for records tied to New Marshfield, ZIP 45766, Waterloo Township, Hawk Road, and Mineral Road. Copy [email protected] if needed.

Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail

Current inmate roster

Live public feed

Who is in custody right now: name, charges, book date, bail, and arresting agency. Athens County houses its inmates here.

The live public roster is the fastest signal that someone was booked. It does not list hometown — flag New Marshfield hits yourself.

This detector pulls the roster on demand. Photos are not stored or republished.

Athens County 9-1-1

Dispatch / CAD

Request only

Computer-aided dispatch logs and 9-1-1 call records for Waterloo Township and New Marshfield.

CAD rows often include the street, even when the jail roster does not.

  • Athens County, Ohio

Audio of 9-1-1 calls may be delayed or redacted. Ask for CAD printouts first — they are usually faster.

Athens County Municipal Court

Clerk of Court

Online docket

Misdemeanor complaints, traffic cases, warrants, and hearing dates. Many New Marshfield arrests are charged here first.

Dockets sometimes list a defendant’s city. Search 45766 / New Marshfield as a party address if the portal allows it.

Online docket search is public. Certified copies still go through the clerk.

Athens County Common Pleas

Clerk of Courts — Candy S. Russell

Online docket

Felony case files, indictments, and the online CourtView docket / e-filing system.

Felony arrests from the township land here after bind-over or direct indictment.

Public records policy is posted by the Clerk. CourtView is the docket; paper files remain at the courthouse.

Athens County Prosecutor

Criminal division

Request only

Charging decisions, bills of information, and public press releases on filed cases.

Confirms whether a booking became a case — the jail roster is not a conviction.

  • Athens County Courthouse, Athens, OH 45701

Open investigative files are often exempt. Ask for already-filed charging documents.

Waterloo Township Trustees

Township house, New Marshfield

Request only

Trustee minutes, road logs, and any township records of incidents on township roads. There is no township police department.

The township building sits in New Marshfield. Minutes sometimes note sheriff calls or road closures.

  • 8244 Hawk Road, P.O. Box 249, New Marshfield, OH 45766
  • 740-664-4481

Ohio’s Public Records Act still applies to townships. Ask for meeting minutes and any incident correspondence.

Athens County Records Center

County archives

Older county department files that have been transferred off the originating office.

Useful when a current office says the file was archived.

  • Athens County, Ohio

Start with the originating office (Sheriff or Clerk) before the archive.

Ohio Attorney General

Sunshine Laws / BCI

Online docket

The Ohio Public Records Act manual, BCI ident background (not a public blotter), and statewide guidance when a local office stalls.

Ohio does not use federal FOIA for county records. R.C. 149.43 is the statute that binds these offices.

  • Columbus, Ohio

If an office ignores a request, the Act allows a mandamus action. The AG’s Sunshine Laws manual is the field guide.
